About Iroko

Iroko exists to address the fact that some of the world’s most compelling writing is never read due to structural barriers. We recognise that the infrastructure of the internet wasn’t built with every writer in mind. Payment systems and platforms that exclude entire continents mean that brilliant voices are unable to reach the readers who would value them most.

Iroko is a publishing platform built on the belief that a writer’s ability to share their work, and to earn from it, should not depend on their geography. We use payment infrastructure that works across Africa and beyond, because the tools of publishing should be as borderless as writing itself.

The iroko is one of Africa’s great hardwood trees, its vast and deep roots symbolising resilience and longevity. It is a place where communities gather and where generational wisdom is received and passed on.

That is what we are building. Deeply rooted, cultivated for community, reach and legacy.
